“The Night Watchman” & “Speaking of the Weather” Cel and Background Setup (c.1930s) - ID: mar23496

A production cel and background from the Warner Bros. animated Merrie Melodies shorts. Featuring a tall mouse in a green sweater in front of several magazine covers perched along a shelf, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. Both pieces represent actual frames of animation that were photographed and appear in a cartoon. The cel can be seen in "The Night Watchman" a Sniffles cartoon which was released in 1938. The background can be seen in "Speaking of the Weather" which was released in 1937. Measuring 9"x12" overall, with the character image measuring 4.5"x6.75", the piece is in good condition with the cel layer sticking to the background and paint damage.
